Hey friends,
Welcome back to cmd+growth.
This week felt like a glimpse into where digital marketing is heading next.
Google is turning Search into an AI agent. OpenAI is moving deeper into shopping. Reddit keeps becoming more valuable for research and discovery. And marketers are still trying to figure out whether AI visibility can actually be measured.
Let’s get into it.
Today’s topics
- Google pushes Search into agentic AI
- ChatGPT expands shopping capabilities
- The AI visibility measurement debate continues
- Reddit keeps growing as a discovery platform
- Creator marketing becomes a bigger budget line
- Google AI Max expands further
Google Turns Search Into an Agent Platform
Google I/O was essentially one long argument that Search should do more than return links.
AI Mode continues expanding, agentic capabilities are arriving and Google is showing a future where Search can compare products, conduct research, fill out forms and complete tasks on behalf of users.
For marketers, the implication is significant: visibility increasingly happens before the click.
If an AI agent handles the comparison process, getting selected may become just as important as getting clicked.

ChatGPT Is Becoming a Shopping Assistant
OpenAI continues expanding shopping features inside ChatGPT.
Users can now compare products, browse recommendations and evaluate options without leaving the conversation. Product discovery is gradually becoming part of the AI experience itself.
The bigger shift is not ecommerce.
It is where product research happens. If more buying decisions begin inside AI assistants, marketers need visibility in places that never existed a year ago.

Can AI Visibility Actually Be Measured?
One of the biggest arguments in AI search right now is whether AI visibility tracking is even possible.
Supporters argue that prompt tracking and visibility monitoring provide useful directional data. Critics argue that AI answers are too dynamic to be measured like search rankings.
Recent experiments from practitioners including Malte Landwehr suggest intent matters more than wording, making visibility more predictable than many expected.
The debate is far from settled, but it is becoming one of the most important conversations in AI search.

Reddit Keeps Becoming More Valuable
Reddit is increasingly functioning as a search engine, research tool and discovery platform all at once.
Google continues surfacing Reddit content prominently. AI systems frequently cite Reddit discussions. And marketers are starting to treat Reddit conversations as market research data.
The result is that Reddit has become one of the internet’s most influential recommendation engines without ever positioning itself that way.

Creator Marketing Is Becoming Infrastructure
Brands increasingly treat creators as distribution channels rather than campaign partners.
That distinction matters.
The creator economy is moving from sponsorships toward recurring relationships, affiliate programs and always-on distribution strategies.
The brands seeing the strongest results are often the ones treating creators as media assets rather than one-off placements.

Google AI Max Expands Again
Google continues pushing advertisers toward AI-powered campaign management.
AI Max now extends across more campaign types, with additional controls designed to balance automation and advertiser oversight.
The pattern should look familiar by now.
More automation. Less manual control. Greater reliance on quality inputs.
The advertisers who maintain clean feeds, accurate conversion tracking and strong creative assets will benefit most.

- Microsoft continues integrating Copilot deeper into Windows and Office.
- AI referral traffic remains small but conversion rates appear stronger than many marketers expected.
- LinkedIn engagement increasingly depends on depth rather than visible reactions.
- Google AI Overviews continue expanding internationally.
My Take
The thing I keep noticing is that the internet is becoming less click-driven and more decision-driven.
Google wants to make decisions.
ChatGPT wants to make recommendations.
Reddit influences decisions before people ever visit a website.
Creators increasingly influence decisions before people ever see an ad.
That changes the marketing game.
For years, success was about getting traffic.
Increasingly, success may be about being considered before traffic even exists.
The brands that win will probably be the ones that show up wherever decisions happen, not wherever clicks happen.
See you next week.
